Glencoe is Valentine's favourite

February 14th may have just gone, but walkers may be happier to celebrate romance with a nice walk than a fancy meal.

Those in love with the outdoors voted Glencoe the most romantic landscape in the Scottish Highlands, in a poll arranged for the occasion by the John Muir Trust (JMT) and tourism body Walk highlands.

JMT chairman John Hutchison said many people are indeed emotionally attached to the Highlands.
He commented: "All kinds of wild landscape are clearly meaningful to people, from the stunning mountains of Glencoe, the vast sweep of Rannoch Moor and the remote tranquillity of Sandwood Bay."

The aforementioned bay was second in the list, with Glen Affric third among the 15 locations voters were asked to choose from, though others were suggested.

Glencoe polled 18 per cent of the votes and Munro lovers may have had a lot to do with this, as the valley features peaks such as Stob Dearg on Bachaille Etive Mor, Bidean nam Bian and the two peaks of the Aonach Eagach ridge - Sgorr nam Fiannaidh and Meall Dearg.
